Site Seeing with Google Earth | Print |
Monday, 09 July 2007
I think everyone is familiar with Google Earth.  It's a free application that lets you see any location on Earth from space.  A neat application when doing geography and social studies lessons. (http://earth.google.com)

I found another fun site to compliment the Google Earth application.  It's called Google Site Seeing. http://googlesightseeing.com/ It's a website that highlights interesting views that you can see
 using Google Earth.

For example, the Lingotto Building in Italy was once the largest car factory in the world.  Often the finds include a link to a Wikipedia article for additional information.

Enjoy

All Caps in Email | Print |
Tuesday, 12 June 2007
Another quick entry:

When you use all caps in email, it means you are YELLING your response.    I see email from time to time come through, and I don't *think* people are yelling but according to email etiquette, they are.

Something to consider when corresponding.

There are lots more great points at:
http://www.emailreplies.com

Another of my favorites is to always use a subject line.

How-tos and Tutorials | Print |
Friday, 01 June 2007
Just a quick note.  I don't think everyone is aware of the tutorials REMC#1 has made available.  If you are stuck check: http://support.remc1.net/helpdesk for demonstrations, and how-tos  on varying topics.

If you are a member of the REMC#1 area, and have an idea for a tutorial we are always interested in hearing about it.

Thanks

Scott

Understanding Bess | Print |
Wednesday, 16 May 2007
Schools in the REMC#1 area use Bess for their web filtering service.  I think everyone understands the general concept behind web filtering.  A user tries to visit a site (let's say playboy.com), before the site is loaded on the user's screen, the site is checked in the filter "hey is this site okay to visit".  If it is okay, the site is loaded, if not a notice is displayed instead.

TinyURL.com | Print |

Have you ever tried to share a website with someone else?  If the website is short like http://www.remc1.net it's not too bad to share, but much beyond that, there lots of opportunities for typos, misunderstandings and other problems.
