There are many things that parents want to know about for their
home computing experience, from security to viruses to filtering to
recommendations. We'll try to provide access to some of those
things here. We do not sell, endorse, or recommend any one product,
merely provide this is a partial list of possible solutions we are
familiar with.
Firewall information If you have high
speed internet (cable modem or DSL), you really need a firewall of some
sort. There are many to chose from, with various features, but
generally the easiest ones are the small hardware firewalls. Several
examples are here from D-Link and Linksys, and can generally be purchased for under $50 (if you watch the sales).
Anti-Virus Information There
are an average of some 8 new Windows viruses a day, so you need to
protect yourself with some sort of anti-virus. There are many out
there, some better than others, and of course varying price tags.
Virus Hoax sites (to check and see if that email really is correct regarding the latest virus) Anti-Spyware Information While
antivirus programs protect you from viruses, anti-spyware programs
protect you from adware and spyware - things that can steal your
identity.
Web Filtering/Monitoring Information Phishing Information
IM/Chat Monitoring Privacy/Protection/Awareness Information

PC Auditing software - Check your connection speed, test your firewall, check for spyware, tips, info, etc.
