Summer Network Upgrade and Outage | Print |

Just as a 'heads up', there will be a massive fiber upgrade project going on in August, that will disrupt all network activity to all schools on the fiber network.  We do not yet have a firm timeline from Charter, but we are working to streamline the process and avoid major events in all districts.

This upgrade will be a great enhancment to our regional network, and we look forward to it being completed.
The primary change for this upgrade will be the actual fiber equipment at each site will be changed.  We will move from an aging, more archaic system (ATM) to a more standard, current-day system (gigabit ethernet).  This will give us additional flexibility, increased speeds, and easier administration.  It also moves the ongoing hardware maintenance & replacement liability away from the schools and to Charter (our fiber lease partner).

We are doing this project now before we have any major problems with the ATM system, and while we can leverage USF funds to finance a major portion of the costs.

This change should increase the available 'uptime' of the system, as well.
